Can we dump nuclear waste in space?

can we dump nuclear waste in space or other bad toxic radioactive chemicals i don't see why we cant send them into a shuttle and then send it deep in space and then do a controlled explosion of it in the far parts of space is it possible to do this as we don't affect or earth in any way
