Is Flo from that Progressive add really famous or what?

I never even payed attention until now, but my next door neighbor says she is famous and adored by aton of fans. Says her fan mail is crazy. Its just a commercial, its not like shes insanely hot or anything. Not to mention they overkilled the progressive commercials by using her to much. Why is she so adored?
