Do you need to adjust the cooking time if you are going to half a slow cooker recipe for a smaller crock-pot?

Some recipes call for the use of a 5-6 quart slow-cooker. We are a family of TWO, therefore looking to get a smaller crock-pot, maybe a 3.5 quart. Can we still use the recipes for the larger slow cookers?
