What are the STEPS for PATENT and TRADEMARK?

According to me and few random people i already asked, i think i have a really good idea on my hands. I dont know where and how to start, what are the steps, and when its the right time to turn into people who could turn my idea into the product i am thinking! How could i make sure that my idea isnt being developed or is already out on the market by someone else?
